Virgil van Dijk praised Liverpool match-winner Darwin Nunez after the Reds recorded their third win on the spin with a 1-0 triumph over West Ham.

Liverpool defender Van Dijk believes Nunez has so much “potential” after making the move to the Premier League in the summer following his record transfer from Benfica.

“I think he has so much potential, he’s still young, he’s learning, he’s learning the way we play, he’s learning English and he’s the modern day striker that causes defenders problems and you can see it today, his runs in behind and build-up play is getting better,” Van Dijk told Amazon Prime Video after Liverpool’s win. “We have different weapons to try and exploit opponents and that’s good.”

Van Dijk highlighted the importance of Alisson after he saved Bowen’s penalty to keep Liverpool in the lead following a foul by Joe Gomez.

Well we play for one of the biggest clubs in the world and to have this goalkeeper with us is obviously something we need. It’s a great moment to save that penalty, clean sheet, good performance, especially defensively second-half, we could’ve maybe scored a second.

“But it’s all about three points especially in this hectic period where we’re almost playing 48 hours again or something. We got a win and that’s the most important thing, especially this period, buzzing with that, clean sheet. We move on.”

The Uruguayan striker opened the scoring for Liverpool in the first half with a superb header from a Kostas Tsimikas ball into the box before Alisson Becker saved Jarrod Bowen’s penalty late in the first period.
