Liverpool face rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford on Monday night, so we simulated the game to predict the score.
Liverpool will be looking to secure their first win of the 2022/23 Premier League season on Monday night as they face their struggling rivals Manchester United.
It’s been an underwhelming start for the Reds, with two draws from two leaving Jurgen Klopp’s side in the bottom half of the table. Liverpool’s last outing saw Darwin Nunez receive a red card for headbutting Joachim Andersen as they drew 1-1 with Crystal Palace. So they will be looking to overcome fierce rivals Man United to claim their first win of the season, with recent results falling in their favour. Last season, Liverpool beat United 9-0 over the two league games, including a 5-0 battering at Old Trafford.
Manager Klopp has confirmed that Naby Keita and Roberto Firmino should be fit for the trip to Old Trafford, whileJoe Gomez is set to start alongside Virgil van Dijk in defence. Caoimhin Kelleher, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Curtis Jones, Diogo Jota, Ibrahima Konate, Joel Matip, Thiago, Calvin Ramsey and Nunez are all guaranteed to be absent from the squad.
Manchester United vs Liverpool score predicted by simulation
To complete this simulation, we used FIFA 22 and updated the squads with the latest transfers. Due to FIFA 22 not having the latest kits, both sides lined up in the kits from the 2021/22 season.
We predict that United could set up in a 4-3-3 formation, with their line-up as follows: De Gea; Dalot, Martinez, Varane, Malacia; Fred, McTominay, Fernandes; Sancho, Martial, Rashford.
We predict that Klopp’s side could set up in a 4-3-3 formation, with their line-up as follows: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson; Elliott, Fabinho, Henderson; Salah, Firmino, Diaz.
After a dominant first half, Liverpool entered the break at 0-0, and against the run of play, United took the lead early in the second. A long ball from Bruno Fernandes beat the Reds’ high line, and Marcus Rashford curled his effort around Alisson.
Following a cleared corner, Virgil van Dijk reclaimed the ball and found Diaz inside the box. A clever turn put the forward in sight of goal, and his powerful finish levelled the score.
Not long after Diaz’s opener, Mohamed Salah got on the scoresheet as the Reds took the lead for the first time in the game. Andy Robertson sent a cross into the box that was flicked on at the near post, and the ball fell to Salah, completely unmarked.
After taking one touch out of his feet, Salah fired past the scrambling De Gea, with the goal making him the all-time top goalscorer in this fixture. Ten minutes later, Salah raced through on goal as he looked set to score, but a clumsy foul from Lisandro Martinez saw the Reds awarded a penalty, and the defender was sent off.
Salah blasted his effort into the bottom right corner, sending De Gea the wrong way. Naby Keita was introduced with 10 minutes to go in place of Harvey Elliot, and the midfielder grabbed Liverpool’s fourth, with Klopp’s side running riot.
After a strong press from the Reds, De Gea fluffed his lines and gave possession to Keita, who surged through one-on-one with the Spaniard. With plenty of time, Keita blasted his effort past the ‘keeper and put the Reds out of sight.
United pulled a goal back in the 91st minute, but it was too little too late from the hosts. Rashford’s drilled cross into the box was unfortunately turned into the net by Van Dijk, but it didn’t impact the overall outcome as Liverpool claimed their first win of the season.
