Jose Enrique has backed the idea to allow injury-hit Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain leave Liverpool at the end of the season, as he posted on Instagram.
The former left-back stated, with Oxlade-Chamberlain’s possible exit, Liverpool can ‘buy someone else’ and then have someone who can play on a more regular basis.
The 29-year-old’s contract on Merseyside is set to expire in the summer – and there is talk that the club won’t renew his current deal and he will leave.
Not only has he struggled for form at Liverpool, but the only time he has been consistent is when he has been in the treatment room.
It’s the right call to let him go when the time comes, as Enrique thinks this will be best for both parties.
I believe this is the best for him and for the club,” said Enrique. “He can go somewhere else and have more game time and we can buy someone else that is available to play more often.”
WHAT NEXT FOR THE OX?
The 35-cap England international is currently playing for a team in the Champions League, and in truth, he will do well to match that for his next career move.
Would even a team currently in the Premier League that’s playing in Europe take him on board? Probably not.
That’s how far he has fallen, but either way, he needs to make the right move where he can express himself, play on a regular basis and pick up his career before he starts hitting his 30s.
