‘TOP-CLASS’: BT pundits all praised ‘exceptional’ Liverpool player who was ‘dragging his team forward’

Harvey Elliott got plenty of praise for his display vs Newcastle United on Wednesday evening. The Liverpool youngster was ‘exceptional’.

Harvey Elliott may not have been the one to get the match-winner at Anfield, but no one got as much praise as Liverpool’s no.19. The teenager was fantastic all night, working hard and linking play like a seasoned pro.

Jamie Carragher was one of those who gave praise to Elliott. He was far from the only one, however, as everyone at BT Sport hailed the youngster.

Lucy Ward loved what she saw on commentary, praising Elliott all night long.

“I think he’s been brilliant, Harvey Elliott,” she said. “He’s dragging his team forward from that midfield position.”

“He’s really benefited from games and minutes, too. Growing in confidence,” she went on to say, before adding: “I think he’s showing that he’s a top-class centre-midfielder.”

“Harvey Elliott, I thought was exceptional at times,” said Rio Ferdinand post-match. Steve McManaman called the midfielder’s display “Excellent”.

There was so much to love about Elliott tonight. It’s been said a thousand times but he truly does play beyond his years, both in the way he sees the game and his work rate.Liverpool FC v Newcastle United - Premier League

But it’s safe to say he’s got that back now. With Thiago and Naby Keita out, there’s little doubt that Elliott should be starting in midfield every week.

If he’s fit enough, Klopp will surely trust him in the Merseyside derby on Saturday, too. Another top performance at Goodison Park and then we can start seriously calling Elliott one of the greatest young players we’ve seen in some time.
