‘They’re great players’: Arthur says three of his new Liverpool teammates have already impressed him

New Liverpool loan signing Arthur Melo is looking forward to linking up with ‘great players’ Alisson Becker, Roberto Firmino and Fabinho.

The Brazilian sat down with liverpoolfc.com for his first interview as a Liverpool player yesterday. Asked if the presence of his countrymen will help him settle in, Arthur said he was lucky to have such ‘great friends’ already at the club.

Definitely. Settling in is always difficult, adapting to anything in your life isn’t easy. I’m really lucky that I’ve played with numerous players at the club for the national team. I know them very well – Alisson, Fabinho, Firmino. They’re great friends and great players, I’m sure they’ll be a great help to me settling in here,” gushed the 26-year-old.

Liverpool’s Brazilian trio just became a quartet. The other three have all carved out sensational careers at Anfield, fingers cross Arthur can follow in their footsteps.

Arthur hoping to catch Tite’s eye at Liverpool

It’s clear that the presence of Liverpool’s Brazilians will have been a factor in Arthur’s decision to join the club. Not only will it help him settle in, but it also means that the eyes of national team coach Tite are often on The Reds.

With a World Cup on the horizon, Arthur will need something special to get himself back in the fold. Brazil aren’t short of brilliant midfielders and only two of his 22 caps have come since 2020.

But there’s still a chance that he could join both Alisson and Fabinho in being in the Selecao squad for Qatar.

For that to happen he’ll have to hit the ground running. The tournament gets underway in just over two months, not a lot of time to make an impression.

already impressed Arthur

Luckily for him, it looks as though he’s fit to play straight away. Liverpool’s injuries in midfield have presented an opening for him which perhaps wasn’t forthcoming at Juventus.

Roberto Firmino is another who’s looking for a way back into the squad. As a result, Tite will be keeping a close watch over Liverpool. Bobby has done his chances no harm at all with a couple of excellent early season displays.

If Arthur can make a similar impact, Liverpool could still have all four of their Brazilian’s heading to world football’s showpiece event.

But first, Arthur’s focus has to be on getting into the Reds team and staying there. Impress for Liverpool, and a call-up could follow. Fade into the background at his new club, and it certainly won’t.
