Report: Luis Diaz out and now ‘unbelievably special’ Liverpool player is major doubt to face Man City

One Liverpool player is out of the Man City game next week and another is a major doubt, according to reports. The Reds are up against it.

This comes from The Times. Paul Joyce confirms that Trent Alexander-Arnold is now a major doubt to face Manchester City for Liverpool next Sunday.

The right-back went off at half-time against Arsenal, with Jurgen Klopp saying it was a bad one after the game. The Reds now wait on an update to see if they’ll have their right-back.

And the bad news doesn’t stop there. Luis Diaz isn’t just out of that game but won’t play until after the World Cup. That’s late December at the earliest, for those unclear.

Diaz also went off against Arsenal, this time with a knee problem. The positive news is that the Colombian won’t require surgery but it’s a massive blow at a horrible time for Liverpool.

That clash with City is probably the biggest game of the season. Liverpool are already in poor form, of course, and now they won’t have two starting players.

It’s a disaster, let alone the fact that Diaz is gone for months. Jurgen Klopp, one week after changing formation to a 4-4-2, is now left needing to shift things about again.

If we’re being pessimistic, it’s difficult to see how Liverpool can stand much of a chance against City. Diaz, for instance, has been one of the few in-form players this season. And while Alexander-Arnold certainly hasn’t been, he’s still one of the few options where a return to form would signal an upturn for the entire team.

He’s an ‘unbelievably special’ talent, as Gary Neville puts it. Liverpool at their best, if that’s happening anytime soon, needs Alexander-Arnold.

We really have no idea what Klopp is going to do, and then there’s the Rangers game to contend with. This proves to be a difficult week for Liverpool at a time when they need to catch a break.
