Liverpool are one of the clubs pursuing a deal for 18-year-old Norwegian prospect Andreas Schjelderup.
That’s according to El Gol Digital, who claim that the teenager is on Liverpool’s radar ahead of a potential move.
However, the Reds aren’t necessarily the most interested party. That title reportedly belongs to Sevilla, who are said to have already had an approach turned down by Nordsjaelland.
Sevilla, and Liverpool, will also have to fight off interest from Borussia Dortmund, Arsenal and Inter Milan. The trio are all said to be interested in Schjelderup. Nordsjaelland are claimed to be looking for a starting price of around £18m.
Liverpool keeping their eye on Schjelderup progress
It wouldn’t be a surprise if Liverpool retained an interest in Schjelderup. According to the man himself, he already turned down a move to Anfield once before.
Speaking to Goal earlier this year, the Norway U21 star said it ‘hurt’ him to turn down an approach from Liverpool.
As it turns out, Schjelderup was actually on trial with the Reds before opting to join Nordsjaelland in 2020.
Although no doubt disappointed to miss out on an exciting talent, it’s likely Liverpool have followed his career in the intervening two years.
What they will have seen is steady progress from the attacking midfielder. Having started five games for the first team in 2020/21, Schjelderup upped that to 14 during last term, scoring four goals.
This season, he has now become a regular starter for his team. Ten games into the Superligaen season, the 18-year-old has been in the line-up nine times.
With five goals to his name, he’s currently the top scorer in the league as per Fotmob.
Considering he only turned eighteen in June, that’s some going. A call up to the full Norway squad surely isn’t far away. It may be that Liverpool will want to see Schjelderup perform at a higher level before making a move. But the interest is surely there.
