Report: Liverpool staff were amazed by how good ‘brilliant’ PL player was against them last year

Liverpool staff were amazed at the performance of former Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster last year.

That’s according to The Athletic. They claim that the Reds backroom staff were ‘taken aback’ by the improvement the ‘keeper showed.

The game in questions was a 1-0 win for Saints over Liverpool in January 2021. During the match, the Liverpool staff were reportedly impressed with Forster’s ability to sweep at the back and play under pressure.

Liverpool preparing for life after Adrian?

This is quite a random little nugget of information. At this stage, there’s no way that Liverpool would be interested in bringing Forster to the club.

He’s thirty-four and has only just signed for a new club, on a two-year deal at that.

However, the Reds may well be looking to replace third choice ‘keeper Adrian at the end of the season. The Spaniard’s contract is up and he could well look to move on.

As a result, Liverpool could find themselves in the market for a back-up to the back-up. The trend for Premier League teams these days is to go for a wise old head to fill that role. Think Scott Carson at Manchester City, or Rob Green’s stint at Chelsea.Liverpool staff were amazed

Liverpool themselves had veteran goalie Andy Lonergan filling that role until 2020 and now have Adrian.

Forster isn’t quite into that territory at Spurs. The England international looks set to be Antonio Conte’s No.2 for the season.

Nevertheless, perhaps if Liverpool have been suitably impressed by him, they’d see a move next summer as being prudent. Forster would be unlikely to cost much at all and clearly has the attention of the Liverpool staff.

As a cheap option, who’s to say it wouldn’t work out. The giant keeper has loads of experience and was said to be ‘brilliant’ at Celtic by then boss Neil Lennon via The Daily Mail. Could be one to keep an eye on.
