Report: Liverpool ready to challenge Juventus on free transfer for ‘fantastic’ PL midfielder

Liverpool are ready to challenge Juventus over a free transfer for Youri Tielemans, according to reports. The midfielder will be in demand.

This comes from CalcioMercato. They claim that Youri Tielemans will not renew his contract with Leicester City and that’s caught the eye of Juventus. Though, they’re not the only ones.

Real Madrid would also like Tielemans on a free transfer – and so would Liverpool. They appear to be the three clubs pushing for a deal in 2023.

Tielemans has enjoyed some incredible times with Leicester, of course. Just last year, former Leicester and Liverpool striker Emile Heskey raved about the player

“Tielemans is a fantastic player,” he told Goal. “Tielemans is the kind of player that would suit any midfield and any team.”

His last 12 months hasn’t quite lived up to his best but the Belgian promises to be in high demand next year. It’s not easy to get a player with his talent for free, after all.

Liverpool consider Youri Tielemans free transfer

We think this would be a smart deal and one we actually suggested before the transfer window shut. Even at £21m, Tielemans would have been an interesting addition.

But for free? Liverpool will surely try. Tielemans might not be the perfect midfielder and his form is questionable but his talent is immense. The Reds simply must back themselves to get the most out of him when he could be an addition without a transfer fee.Netherlands v Belgium: UEFA Nations League - League Path Group 4

It’s the kind of signing that could boost your squad while allowing funds for other players. Potentially, Jude Bellingham, for instance.

Such a deal makes even more sense when the likes of Naby Keita, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are all out of contract. They’d free up a lot of money in wages that could go towards someone like Tielemans.

We like this one, then, even if we wish the link came from a stronger source. Tielemans has the kind of ability Liverpool could use right now, while he’d immediately add fresh ideas to the squad.
