Liverpool want Mason Mount and it’s now claimed that he has rejected large contract offers to stay with Chelsea.
That’s according to The Athletic, who claim that Mount has been offered a similar wages to the ones in Reece James’ contract.
For context, James signed a huge £250,000-a-week deal with Chelsea back in September.
Even though Chelsea have offered Mount a similar deal, the playmaker still hasn’t been convinced to sign on the dotted line.
It’s added that Chelsea are facing three major issues in their quest to get Mount signed up.
Image rights, bonuses and the length of contract are described as being problems for Chelsea in their talks with Mount.
The 24-year-old doesn’t want to tie himself to Chelsea into his 30’s and is subsequently rejecting Chelsea’s offers.
It’s added that Chelsea would sell Mount this summer if a deal can’t be sorted, given that he will be out of contract in 2024.
LIVERPOOL BOOSTED IN MASON MOUNT CHASE
This all works well for Liverpool.
The Reds are chasing major midfield reinforcements this summer and Mount is a prime target for Jurgen Klopp and co.
TalkSPORT claimed last week that Liverpool are increasingly confident of signing Mount.
That report suggested that Klopp thinks Mount is ideal for Liverpool and a summer deal will be pursued.
We’re still a few months away from the summer window but Liverpool moving for Mount seems pretty likely.
Hailed as ‘exceptional’ by England boss Gareth Southgate, Mount would bring real energy and creativity to the Liverpool midfield.
Chelsea will want considerable money despite Mount’s contract situation, and the midfielder may fancy hefty wages.
