Report: 27-year-old player Klopp sold last season now unlikely to be fit to play against Liverpool at Anfield

Rangers defender Ben Davies is looking unlikely to be fit to play against Liverpool at Anfield a week on Tuesday.

That’s according to Football Scotland, who claim that the former Liverpool man is still ‘some way’ short of match fitness.

Davies has only played three times since making the move to Rangers from the Reds in the summer. Unfortunately for him, he looks set to sit out once again against Liverpool.

As well as Davies, Rangers will reportedly be missing centre-back James Sands through suspension. With Leon King and Filip Helander also injured, Giovanni van Bronckhorst is claimed to have something of a defensive crisis heading to Anfield.play against Liverpool

Davies misses out on Anfield yet again

Poor Ben Davies. The 27-year-old defender spent a year-and-a-half at Liverpool without ever playing a competitive game at Anfield.

When the draw was made for Champions League Group A he must have allowed himself a wry smile. Finally, a chance to play at the famous old stadium under the lights.

But now, it looks like even that crumb of a consolation will be taken from him.

From a Liverpool point of view, all this is not necessarily bad news. Rangers have struggled massively in their opening two games of the group. A shortage of centre backs won’t exactly fuel positivity that they can turn that around on Merseyside.play against Liverpool

That doesn’t mean they can’t, and they’ll want to give a good account of themselves. But the Reds will surely enter the game as massive favourites.

With Liverpool in the form they are though, nothing can or should be taken for granted. There’s a whole international break and a tough game against Brighton to get through first.

Come through that unscathed, and then Liverpool can look ahead to their clash with Rangers.

As it stands, Davies seems set to watch that either from the stands or the bench. In fairness, there will at least be a sense of familiarity to that for him.
