REPORT 📌 ❗ Senior duo left out of Liverpool Champions League squad as Jurgen Klopp gets angry question

Liverpool leave out two senior players from Champions League squad

Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have been left out of Liverpool’s squad for the Champions League group stage.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has been sidelined since mid-July with a hamstring problem suffered during the pre-season tour in Singapore while Keita has missed the last four games with a muscle issue that has required specialist assessment.

Liverpool begin their Champions League campaign on Wednesday at Napoli, with the early finish to the group stage meaning their final game takes place at home to the Italians on November 1.

And that both Oxlade-Chamberlain and Keita have been omitted indicates neither is likely to feature heavily for the Reds before the season pauses for the World Cup on November 12.

Liverpool’s bumpy Premier League campaign continued with a goalless draw at neighbours Everton on Saturday.

Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah all struck the woodwork but there was to be no breakthrough as the Reds had to settle for a point. The result means Jurgen Klopp’s side have won only two of their first six top-flight games this term.

But there was plenty that went unnoticed or under the radar during the 90 minutes at Goodison, as Ian Doyle explores – including Jurgen Klopp being sent an angry question by one of the home supporters.
