Really looking forward’: 19-year-old Liverpool player signs with Adidas before even making his debut

Calvin Ramsay signs a deal with Adidas as he prepares to make his Liverpool debut. The Scot is yet to have his chance at Anfield.

Calvin Ramsay announced on Twitter this week that he’s signed a deal with Adidas. The sportswear company will now sponsor the 19-year-old – though that’s all the information available.

It’s a sign of Ramsay’s growing reputation. The Scot signed for Liverpool this summer after seriously impressing with Aberdeen, earning awards for his efforts as a right-back.

There’s a sense that he’s really going places – Adidas seem to see it that way, indeed. Now all we need to see is a Liverpool debut.

Ramsay hasn’t been able to feature for Liverpool after arriving with an injury. The problem kept him entirely out of pre-season and the start to the campaign proper. In fact, Ramsay hasn’t really trained with the first-team much at all.

But Liverpool rate him highly. They opted to sell Neco Williams and loan out both Conor Bradley and Sepp van den Berg this summer. That’s a sign of their faith in the new signing – even if they must wait to use him.

There’s little doubt that Ramsay will be worth the wait, though. Joe Gomez talked this week about there being excitement around the player and early impressions with the senior setup are all positive.

It was always pretty clear that Liverpool had found the right full-back for them. Ramsay has bags of talent and while Trent Alexander-Arnold is a near-impossible player to displace, we expect to see plenty of the Scot this season.

The EFL Cup tie with Derby County looks like an ideal first start for Ramsay and hopefully, a chance for him to prove that his reputation is deserved. We can’t wait to see what he can bring.
