Most of Liverpool’s most important squad numbers are already taken by players, yet there are several numbers for a potential new recruit to choose from. We take a look.
The January transfer window isn’t far away now, and you know what that means. Days and days of rumours, most of which turn out to be futile, while a small percentage of them turn out to be true.
Liverpool will likely be linked to all and sundry over the four weeks in January, but we may see a signing done before the winter window closes, just like the beginning of this year, when Jürgen Klopp signed Luis Díaz from Porto in the dying days of the window.
In fairness, Klopp does need another January boost, with his Liverpool squad looking light in both midfield and attack.
Of course, if it’s a big signing, fans will scramble out to get the new players’ number on the back. But what numbers would be available to any new signing this winter? We take a look at all numbers which are free, as of writing.
All numbers from one to nine are already taken by Liverpool players, but the number 10, one of the most prestigious numbers in the game, has been left vacant by Sadio Mané’s departure to Bayern Munich last summer.
However, that is a number that will only likely get filled by a massive signing, which doesn’t generally tend to happen in January.
So which conventional numbers are free for a potential signing to take?
The numbers left vacant are: 10, 12, 16, 18, 24, 25, 30
