OPINION: DO LIVERPOOL HAVE TO BUY ARTHUR?

Do Liverpool have to buy Arthur? Many concerned fans are asking after the Reds axed the Brazil international from their Champions League squad.

Liverpool signed the South American on loan from Juventus for the 2022/23 campaign, although he has only managed to play 13 minutes of action due to a torn quad muscle, which required surgery.

As a result of the 26-year-old’s underwhelming time at Anfield so far, a number of supporters are wondering if the Reds are in any way obligated to sign him on a permanent basis.

DO LIVERPOOL HAVE TO BUY ARTHUR?

Well, with all due respect to Arthur, Liverpool fans will surely hope there is no obligation to buy the Brazilian.

If you are a Liverpool fan who feels that way, you will be pleased to know that the Reds are not going to have to sign the Goiânia-born playmaker on a permanent basis this summer.

If you are a Liverpool fan who feels that way, you will be pleased to know that the Reds are not going to have to sign the Goiânia-born playmaker on a permanent basis this summer.

As detailed by Juventus in their official announcement of the deal, Liverpool have an OPTION to buy Arthur permanently for €37.5m (£33.6m) this summer – something we believe is highly unlikely to happen unless he has a stunning second half to the campaign.

While Liverpool may not give Juventus that £33.6m sum, they have already paid a €4.5m (£4m) loan fee to the Italian giants, money which has been a total waste so far.

To put that into perspective, Liverpool have paid £307,692 per minute for Arthur.

He was signed to ease Liverpool’s midfield issues, but unfortunately, through no fault of his own, the old Barcelona maestro has only added to Jürgen Klopp’s problems on Merseyside.

Hopefully, despite being axed from the Champions League squad due to his injury issues, Arthur can play a part for Liverpool in the second half of the Premier League campaign at some point.
