Manchester United and Liverpool fans have been eager for ownership updates as both sets of supporters hope for a sale.
According to the Guardian, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani have both submitted bids for Manchester United, while Fenway Sports Group have since backtracked on claims they had put Liverpool on the market.
Now, Melissa Reddy has shared an update – involving Chelsea – when speaking on Sky Sports.
Well, the 36-year-old believes Manchester United and Liverpool both “misread” the ownership market, and claimed that the swift sale of Chelsea to Todd Boehly gave them false hope.
Reddy told Sky Sports: “I think they misread the market. They looked at Chelsea, whose sale was completely different, there were sanctions imposed, it needed to be a quick fire sale.
“The scale of interest in Chelsea told Manchester United and Liverpool’s owners that there would be even greater interest, because those are two bigger clubs. That hasn’t really been the case, and John Henry from FSG has said Liverpool are not for sale now, so there’s a lot of things bubbling under that show we might be getting too excited about a Manchester United takeover.”
Clearly, a sale to Ratcliffe or Sheikh Jassim is not as close as some Manchester United fans would like to think.
In regards to Liverpool, Reddy’s comments seem very applicable.
The Athletic claimed that FSG had placed Liverpool up for sale back in November, although a sudden U-turn despite little success on the pitch suggests Henry really did misjudge the pool of potential buyers.
MANCHESTER UNITED CLOSER THAN LIVERPOOL
While neither side seems close to being sold, Manchester United are certainly closer than Liverpool are.
There have actually been bids for the Red Devils, whereas no offers are known to have been made for Liverpool as things stand.
Be sure to keep an eye on the respective situations, however, as anything could happen.
