Liverpool have already added Cody Gakpo to their ranks in January and questions remain regarding whether Jurgen Klopp’s side will do any more mid-season business.
Liverpool’s need for January reinforcements became more acute as the Reds fell to a heavy defeat at Brighton on Saturday.
Two goals from Solly March and one from Danny Welbeck made for what Jurgen Klopp suggested was the worst loss of his Liverpool career. The Reds manager had previously played down the need for January spending after the early arrival of Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven, but calls for new signings have grown after another setback.
Liverpool fans will also be keeping an eye on potential exits, with a number of players out of contract in the summer. Here are the latest lines from around Anfield.
Neves interest revived
Liverpool are considering a fresh move for Ruben Neves, a player who Jurgen Klopp has long admired. The Wolves midfielder is out of contract in 2024 and appears unlikely to sign new terms at Molineux.
The Reds aren’t the only ones in the hunt, with Newcastle also keen on the Portugal international. However, with the Magpies expected to wait until the summer, a January bid could give Klopp’s team the upper hand.
Liverpool’s manager has made it clear he does not expect further signings before the end of the window. However, the club have been known to make January additions if targets are available at the right price.
Oxlade-Chamberlain could make early exit
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain faces a big decision over his future as he weighs up a January exit over a summer departure. The Liverpool midfielder will be able to join a new club for nothing in the summer, or move now when – as reported by the Mail – he will have ‘guaranteed’ top-flight options.
