It has been reported that Liverpool internally consider Newcastle United midfielder Joe Willock as their alternative to Jude Bellingham.
The Borussia Dortmund talisman is being chased by both Manchester City and Real Madrid currently, which makes it a challenge for Jurgen Klopp’s struggling side to secure his services.
As a result, the Athletic have claimed that in the event that Liverpool miss out on signing Jude Bellingham, Newcastle United attacker Joe Willock could come through the door as a plan B.
With these factors staring the world in their faces, betting on the Merseyside-based club to land the most coveted young player in the world would be risky business.
As a result, it has been mentioned that Liverpool are keeping tabs on Newcastle’s Joe Willock as an alternative to Jude Bellingham, who has been deemed similar in playing style to Georginio Wijnaldum.
It will come as no surprise to see the Kop sit divided about this latest transfer revelation.
IN OUR VIEW: JOE WILLOCK TO ANFIELD MAKES SENSE, BUT NOT A WHOLE LOT OF IT
In some ways, one can see why Liverpool are targeting Joe Willock if Jude Bellingham decides against a move as he is athletic, offers end product and is thriving in a counter-attacking system currently.
The problem is, the former Arsenal youth product would probably have been a better fit in the side Wijnaldum played in that prioritized a midfield that was all energy above everything else.
This current side are in dire need of a midfielder who can pretty much do it all, due to the front three struggling to create chances and the other options in the middle of the park either looking like future stars or simply past their best, which is too much of an ask from Willock.
