Liverpool have been urged to sign Newcastle United midfielder Joelinton by Reds Champions League winner Didi Hamann
Didi Hamann has urged his former side Liverpool to dip into the transfer market and sign Newcastle United’s Joelinton before the transfer window shuts on Thursday.
Jurgen Klopp has recently admitted that he made a mistake in not signing a midfielder for Liverpool earlier in the transfer window, as time looks to be running out. The Reds are on the lookout, but the manager has said they will only make a move if the right player becomes available.
The Liverpool boss once heaped praise on Newcastle’s Joelinton too, as the Brazilian’s turnaround from struggling striker to powerhouse midfielder has been completed.
And Liverpool’s own former midfielder feels the Brazilian could add something to the current side.
“Regardless of the injuries, I think if you look at Liverpool they have a fantastic goalkeeper, defence and up top they’re great as well,” Hamann told GGrecon. “I think they need someone in midfield because they don’t get any goals from midfield. Last year I think they got 12 or 13 goals from midfield and I think Fabinho got about seven of them. That means the rest of the midfield scored about five goals between them. They haven’t got goals from midfield and I think that’s their Achilles heel.
“I watched Newcastle versus Manchester City last week and looking at that I think they need a midfielder with presence. You look at Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott, Thiago, they’re all similar, tidy players, I think they could do with someone like Joelinton from Newcastle.
“I think he’s someone who’s technically gifted, who’s a big lad and has a great strike on him. I think that’s the type of player they miss. Whether you can get him now with a few days of the transfer window left to go, I’m not too sure. If there’s one area where they could do with a player, it’s in midfield.”
Klopp said back in 2019: “Joelinton did outstanding. He is 100% made for the Premier League. If you had to replace Rondon, which is already difficult, then that was a good choice. He was a really good signing.
Joelinton is so demanding. If you lose Ayoze Perez and Rondon, and you are playing with Joelinton, Atsu and when he is not injured Saint-Maximin, if they want to play that way, they have the people for it. It is really interesting.”
