Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk labels Man United transfer target better than he was at same age

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has been speaking about a player who has been linked with Manchester United.

Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk has reserved special praise for a player who’s been heavily linked with Manchester United.

The Reds centre-back is currently away on international duty with the Netherlands as they take part in the UEFA Nations League. The Dutch were in action on Thursday night as they won 2-0 against Poland.

Van Dijk was speaking to the media as the Netherlands prepare to face Belgium on Sunday night. The Liverpool defender was asked about Ajax star Jurrien Timber, who was a target for his former manager and new United boss Erik ten Hag in the summer.

Van Dijk believes that Timber has the ability to surpass his talents and achievements in the game and also made a claim about the young defender’s quality compared to him when he was 21 years old.

“I wasn’t nearly as far along as he is now [at the same age],” said Van Dijk, when asked about Timber’s qualities. “I have nothing but praise for him. He is a great player and a true professional.

“He has so much potential. Hopefully he can develop further. Then it will be all right, I think.”
