LIVERPOOL NEWS: Jude Bellingham transfer stance emerges as Jurgen Klopp ponders rebuild

Jude Bellingham is still Liverpool’s top transfer target, but there have been concerns that the Reds’ recent poor form may have deterred the England star from moving to Anfield.

It’s been a rough week for Liverpool, whose calamitous campaign hit a new low when they were thumped 5-2 by Real Madrid in midweek.

The Reds now have a month to regroup ahead of their second-leg showdown at the Bernabeu, but before then, Jurgen Klopp’s side have a tricky trip to Crystal Palace to negotiate on Saturday.

In spite of their defeat in Europe, Liverpool head into this weekend’s match off the back of consecutive Premier League wins, which could stand them in good stead agains the Eagles.

Away from the pitch, transfer speculation continues to bubble away as we edge ever closer to the end of the campaign. Here, Mirror Football takes a look at all the latest news from in and around Anfield…

Bellingham transfer stance emerges

Jude Bellingham is still open to joining Liverpool in the summer – even though the Reds have seriously struggled this term.

Bellingham, 19, is expected to become the latest superstar to leave Borussia Dortmund in the summer for blockbuster transfer fee. Liverpool have long been touted as frontrunners for the England midfielder’s signature, but there had been concerns that they could, in fact, miss out given they are currently nowhere near the upper echelons of the Premier League.

However, Bellingham has not been put off by the Reds’ recent run of results. And could mean that Liverpool will lead their midfield overhaul by landing their top transfer target in the summer – if they can meet Borussia Dortmund’s demands.Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp

Klopp’s rebuilding plans

After a season of turmoil, Jurgen Klopp will be under no illusions over what must be done in the summer to ensure the Reds continue to challenge for football’s grandest prizes.

With Liverpool now set to end the campaign without silverware following their Champions League mauling at the hands of Real Madrid, attention may be shifted slightly to the summer transfer window. It’s already been well documented that the Merseyside outfit are likely to be in the market for new midfielders – but there are others are which need attention too.

A handful of fringe players are also likely to depart Anfield in the summer, meaning the Reds could be in for a busy summer. Mirror Football assesses some of the changes that could be in store below.

Deja vu for Klopp after FSG message

Jurgen Klopp is being urged by Liverpool fans to rebuild his beleaguered squad – just as he did after taking over back in 2015.

The German coach was appointed by Fenway Sports Group to guide the Reds back to the top after a spell in the footballing wilderness. Any such rebuild should be far easier, though, given the gulf in class between Liverpool’s current squad and the one Klopp inherited seven-and-a-half years ago.

Klopp even revealed in 2021 that FSG sent him a message to apologise for the mess he had taken charge of. He quipped that he had no concerns, just that he would need time to sole the issues. He finds himself in a similar, albeit better, situation right now.
