Liverpool ‘increasingly confident’ of agreeing terms with £50m midfielder

Liverpool have reportedly opened “talks” with Naby Keita over extending his stay at Anfield with his contract due to expire in the summer.

Keita, who is yet to feature for Jurgen Klopp’s side this season, was rumoured to have been unhappy with his situation at Liverpool in the summer and open to a move away.

But according to Football Insider, Liverpool are “increasingly confident” in securing Keita’s future at Anfield with the likes of Borussia Dortmund and his former club Leipzig said to be interested in making a move.

After paying over £50 million for Keita in 2017, he eventually joined the club a year later as the deal with RB Leipzig was struck in advance for one of the Bundesliga’s most exciting players.

The Guinean arrived on Merseyside with plenty of promise and has shown flashes of what he can offer, but Keita has struggled for fitness and consistency with being named in the starting XI.

Despite Keita’s reported wishes in the summer to potentially leave Anfield, the Reds would like to try and secure the long-term of the midfielder.
