Transfer plan must fix Jürgen Klopp ‘Achilles heel’
Jürgen Klopp has a specific problem to address this summer, and it is the one that has haunted him for the entirety of the current campaign. Now seventh in the Premier League table, some 21 points behind Arsenal at the summit, Liverpool’s midfield department has run out of steam over the past seven months.
Last season, the Reds played a total of 63 matches in all competitions, accumulating over 90 points in England’s top-flight while reaching the final of the Carabao Cup, FA Cup and Champions League. It was an almost unprecedented period of success for the Anfield club, but the team’s engine room now seems to be paying the price.
The likes of Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, James Milner and Naby Keïta have appeared over the hill of late, with Thiago Alcântara also looking his age at times, now 31 years old. On top of those issues, Curtis Jones has encountered frustrating injury problems and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has a contract which is due to expire in June.
