LIVERPOOL-DAFT PUNDIT NAMES ONLY 1 PLAYER WHO DIDN’T HUMILIATE HIMSELF V BRIGHTON

Ibrahima Konate was the only Liverpool player who didn’t embarrass himself on Saturday.

At least, that was the view of former Reds star Steve Nicol when discussing the game with ESPN.

Liverpool suffered a horrendous 3-0 defeat away to Brighton & Hove Albion.

Jurgen Klopp has been in charge of the Anfield outfit since 2015 but this was potentially the worst performance they have posted since the former Borussia Dortmund boss came on board.

Konate was playing on the left-hand side of central defence, due to Virgil van Dijk’s absence through injury.

And according to Nicol, the France international was the only player in red who could hold his head high following the display.

He said: “Konate, of the 11 players on the field, was the only one that actually showed what he is. Everybody else was so far off the pace and just not at the races. He was the only player on the team that didn’t embarrass himself. Without him, it would have been six or seven.”

It’s a pretty fair assessment, but even Konate was questionable at times.

For instance, the Liverpool man was beaten by Danny Welbeck for the Seagulls’ third of the evening, with the former Arsenal and Manchester United star knocking the ball over his head, prior to volleying past Alisson.

It wasn’t a flawless display from Konate by any means.
