Liverpool are not’: £63m Man City player now makes claim about Jurgen Klopp’s side so far this season

Manchester City midfielder Rodri has claimed that Liverpool are ‘less effective’ than previous seasons.

The City player spoke about Liverpool in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport. Asked whether he had been surprised by the Reds slow start to the campaign, Rodri pointed to the quality of the Premier League.

Only partially [surprised]. The Premier League level is so high that as soon as you slow down, you lose points,” said the 26-year-old via Sport Witness. “Liverpool are not in crisis, they are just less effective, and the Premier League does not allow you to relax.”

Six games into the league season and Liverpool have just nine points. City, having played a game more, are on seventeen.City player spoke about Liverpool

Liverpool already looking ahead to City clashes

There’s little argument to be had against what the £63m man Rodri is saying here. Liverpool are less effective than last season in every single area of the pitch.

Still, the season is young. With that game in hand, City aren’t out of Liverpool’s sights just yet. But Jurgen Klopp’s side really can’t afford to drop too many more points.

Additionally, they really must make sure they beat Rodri and City in at least one of the games this season.

On both occasions where Liverpool came second to Pep Guardiola’s team by a point, they failed to win against the Champions.City player spoke about Liverpool

Things could certainly have been worse in that regard. Over those four games, they did lose just once. But in the end, that loss in 2018/19 was the difference between a title and a runners-up spot.

With a gap already opening up between them, Liverpool still have two direct chances to close it.

Just like last season, the first of those will come at Anfield in October. Again, just like last season, the return fixture at the Etihad will come in April.

It surely benefits City to have the home game so late in the season once again. But Liverpool have to make that a moot point and beat them anyway. Rodri is right, Liverpool are less effective this season, but hopefully that won’t last long.
