Leeds United wonderkid Illan Meslier has heaped praise on Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson when speaking to Le Media Carre, praising the Brazilian shot-stopper as “perfect” when asked for his favourite Premier League goalkeeper.
Alisson, 30, has made a poor start to 2022-23 – but most of the blame lies with his underperfoming teammates. The Reds look a shadow of the side that won the Premier League, and came a close second to Manchester City last term.
The Brazil international has conceded as many as 17 goals in 11 games, keeping just three clean sheets. But he is still considered one of the Premier League’s best two goalkeepers, alongside fellow Brazilian – Manchester City’s Ederson.
Meslier was asked who his favourite Premier League goalkeeper was during an interview, and he responded by saying Alisson. He thinks the £190,000-a-week goalkeeper is “perfect”, praising the former Roma star’s footwork.
Alisson because he is a ‘keeper who is perfect for Liverpool. Very strong on the line, good footwork and a good recovery. No, really, I think he’s one of the most complete,” Meslier said, during an interview with French site LMC.

Alisson is still one of the best in the world, and arguably second choice to Ederson. The difference is small. Meslier will himself be hoping to get to that standard in the coming years – as he continues to shine as Leeds United’s no.1.
Indeed, there is no doubt that Alisson will remain Liverpool’s first-choice goalkeeper for a number of years to come. He has a contract at Anfield until June 2027. While other Liverpool stars are struggling, Alisson continues to gain plaudits.
However, Alisson will be hoping his side’s form can improve over the next couple of months to show Brazil that he deserves to start above Ederson as first choice at the World Cup. Liverpool are next in action against Rangers.
