Liverpool injury news: Latest updates as the Reds prepare to face Newcastle United in a big clash, with Ibrahima Konaté out and Luis Díaz back running.
Liverpool is looking to build upon the defeat of Merseyside rivals Everton earlier this week with a win against Newcastle United, but will have to do so in the absence of a number of stars who remain out of action.
The returns of forwards Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino, who both came off the bench against Everton, will have been welcomed by Jürgen Klopp as the Reds look to put together back-to-back wins. Another big takeaway from the Merseyside derby was the re-emergence of inspirational center-back Virgil van Dijk, albeit as an unused substitute. The Dutchman has been out of action after picking up a hamstring injury last month.
However, a number of key men still are ruled out for Liverpool’s trip to St James’ Park this weekend, with the Reds unable to call upon Thiago Alcântara, Ibrahima Konaté, Calvin Ramsay or Luis Díaz. The Reds will be hoping that the players who masterminded Liverpool’s resounding win against Everton will be able to continue their form in the absence of those stars.

Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp has revealed that he expects the midfielder will be out for ‘a while’ with a hip injury. The Telegraph has since reported that Thiago could be facing up to a month on the sidelines with the Spanish ace potentially looking towards a return for the away leg of the Champions League tie against Real Madrid on Wednesday, March 15.
The French defender has been ruled out of Liverpool’s last two fixtures and has yet to return to training, with the 23-year-old said to be out for up to three weeks. Should that prove to be the case, the former RB Leipzig star would be eyeing a potential return to action for the home leg of the Champions League tie against Real Madrid on Tuesday, February 21.
Scottish full-back Calvin Ramsay is set to miss some time through injury with the Liverpool youngster having confirmed on Instagram that he has undergone surgery on an issue.
Ramsay posted a picture of himself in a hospital bed, alongside the caption: “Surgery went well time to rest, recover and come back stronger!”
The 19-year-old will hope that his second season as a Liverpool player can see him avoid injuries, with his first campaign having been disrupted significantly.
The Colombian winger, who was a standout performer for the Reds during the early stages of the season, picked up a knee injury against Arsenal in October. Slated for a return in the Dubai training camp, he then suffered a further setback.
The 26-year-old has returned to individual fitness training and was spotted out running at the AXA Training Centre today, but remains some way off re-joining his teammates and, like Thiago, could potentially aim to return to action for the away leg of the Champions League tie against Real Madrid.
The on-loan Juventus midfielder is back in training but did not make the squad for the Merseyside derby versus Everton. The Brazilian has played just 13 minutes since his arrival in the summer during what has been an injury-hit stint at Anfield.
Presumably still trying to build up fitness given his recent injury woes, the former Barcelona man could be eyeing a potential return to action for the away fixture against game Crystal Palace on Saturday, February 25 if he does not make the matchday squad against Newcastle. He is ineligible to face Real Madrid in the meantime, having been excluded from the Champions League squad for the second half of the season.
