JAMIE CARRAGHER NAMES THE 2 LIVERPOOL PLAYERS WHO PROVED HIM WRONG VS MANCHESTER UNITED

Jamie Carragher has said that while he perhaps wanted to see both Cody Gakpo and Harvey Elliott on the Liverpool bench against Manchester United, the pair impressed on Sunday.

While the Dutch forward bagged a brilliant brace, the English attacker was a lively presence throughout the contest as Jurgen Klopp’s men walked away from Anfield after an emphatic 7-0 drubbing of their biggest rivals.

Now, Jamie Carragher has admitted that while he did not want either Cody Gakpo and Harvey Elliott to start against Manchester United, the duo were perhaps the standout performers from a Liverpool perspective.

While the former garnered plaudits from the likes of Rio Ferdinand, Chris Sutton and Michael Owen, the latter did so from Owen Hargreaves and deservedly so.

Now, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has done the same about Cody Gakpo and Harvey Elliott after breaking down his side’s staggering victory against Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United on Sky Sports via Football Daily.

What I would say about [Cody] Gakpo and Harvey Elliott, they were the 2 positions that were up for grabs. I’ll be honest with you, I wanted [Diogo] Jota to play instead of Gakpo because I thought he’d be better pressing from the front, Liverpool could win the ball back from there.”

And I thought, [Stefan] Bajcetic has been performing better than Harvey Elliott over the last, sort of 2 or 3 months. So, I was a bit surprised but I think Jurgen Klopp got it right. But tactically, it was fantastic and the role of Gakpo was key at that and Harvey Elliott.”

Ultimately, Jamie Carragher would have been delighted to see Cody Gakpo and Harvey Elliott put the doubts around their names to bed as they shined for Liverpool against Manchester United and how.
