Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham reacted to a social media post following Liverpool’s 7-0 battering of Manchester United amid rumours of a move to Anfield.
Jude Bellingham got some Liverpool fans excited following their thumping 7-0 victory over Manchester United.
Jurgen Klopp’s side ran out comfortable winners over their arch rivals at Anfield on Sunday afternoon, with Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah all scoring twice and Roberto Firmino also netting for the Reds. It was Liverpool’s biggest-ever win over United – eclipsing the 7-1 win against Sunday’s opponents back in 1895.
After the game, Trent Alexander-Arnold took to Instagram to celebrate the win and posted two photos – one image was of the scoreboard while the other was of the ‘This is Anfield’ sign. The post brought in nearly 700,000 likes within the first hour from Reds supporters.
But it was a like from the Borussia Dortmund star that really caught the eye to the Liverpool faithful who was viewing the post. Bellingham, who is close friends with England teammate Alexander-Arnold, decided to like the post after Liverpool’s triumph.
It comes as Liverpool are among the favourites to sign the 19-year-old after impressing for both club and country in recent months. The Reds could be ready to splash the cash on a new midfielder in the January transfer window, with James Milner and Naby Keita coming to the end of their contracts, while Arthur is set to return to Juventus.
Bellingham has emerged as their No.1 target, however, with the Reds long-term admirers of the ex-Birmingham star. And he was clearly happy with what he saw on Merseyside as Liverpool smashed United and closed the gap on Tottenham in the top four race.
Although Bellingham has been heavily linked with a move to the Reds, it feels as though Klopp’s men must secure Champions League football if they are to lure him to the club. They sit three points behind fourth-place Spurs but are currently on a roll, having won four of their last five league matches since the derby day success over Everton.
But Klopp is taking it every game as it comes following their record-breaking win over United and was delighted with what he saw from his side. He told BBC Sports: “No words. Spectacular football game. Outstanding. We played top football against the team in form.
“The second half the start was pretty good and the end was pretty good. That is football, it can happen.
“It was the push we wanted. It puts us in the right direction. Everyone has to know we are still around. It wasn’t the case for a while but tonight was a proper show of what we can be and what we have to be from now on.”
Meanwhile, Klopp was asked about Salah becoming Liverpool’s record Premier League scorer – and added: “129 goals, that is insane. What an unbelievable number. He is a special player. We appreciate him now but in the future people will look back and be wow, we witnessed something really special.
“It was all top performances today. That is very important for us – 13 games to come? A lot of points to go for. Tonight it was perfect.
