IN MY EYES’: NAGELSMANN SAYS TWO LIVERPOOL TARGETS ARE BETTER THAN ‘OUTSTANDING’ BARCELONA ACE

Speaking to the press, via Bundesliga News, Julian Nagelsmann has been discussing the Kopa Trophy award this week.

The Ballon d’Or ceremony took place on Monday, and while most eyes were on Karim Benzema as he scooped the top award. Barcelona’s Gavi also won a major prize, winning the Kopa Trophy, which is handed out to the best young player in the world.

There has been some kickback against Gavi’s win, and Bayern Munich manager, Julian Nagelsmann has given his view on the matter.

Indeed, the German says that both Jude Bellingham and Jamal Musiala are more deserving of the accolade than Gavi, and interestingly, both Musiala and Bellingham have been linked with a move to Liverpool in recent weeks.

BELLINGHAM AND MUSIALA DESERVE IT

Nagelsmann gave his view on the two young Liverpool targets.

You wear club glasses,” Nagelsmann admitted.

“In my eyes, both Jamal Musiala and Jude Bellingham have had better seasons than the winner. Gavi is an outstanding player, and I’m happy for him too.”

HARD TO ARGUE

It’s really difficult to argue against what Nagelsmann is saying here.

Bellingham and Musiala have been two of the very best players for Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich over the past 12 months, and while Gavi is a star in his own right. He’s far from one of Barca’s most important players.

Often outshined by Pedri, Gavi is certainly the ‘B-side’ in terms of recent La Masia graduates, and while he is mightily talented, he probably didn’t deserve this award.

Of course, awards aren’t that important, and with both Belingham and Musiala being just 19 years old, they’ll have another shot at the Kopa next year – and who knows? Perhaps one of them will be playing for Liverpool by then.
