Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will “definitely” leave Anfield this summer.
Earlier this month, The Athletic reported that the midfielder will depart Anfield when his contract expires at the end of the season.
Oxlade-Chamberlain has made just one appearance for Liverpool since the closure of the January transfer window.
This season, the 29-year-old has featured just 12 times in all competitions, including eight times in the Premier League.
Oxlade-Chamberlain has struggled to settle at Liverpool since his £35million move from Arsenal in 2017.
Injuries have sadly hampered his opportunities at Anfield time and time again.
Back in November, Romano claimed that Liverpool weren’t planning any new talks with Oxlade-Chamberlain over a new deal.
On Wednesday, the transfer insider took to Twitter with an update on the former Gunners ace.
No changes on Oxlade-Chamberlain and Liverpool,” he wrote.
“Expected to part ways in June – he’s gonna leave as free agent.
BEST FOR ALL PARTIES
It’s a real shame how things have panned out for Oxlade-Chamberlain at Liverpool.
He has always had to play catch-up due to his injuries, but is an ‘incredible‘ player on his day.
However, this is very much one of those cases where it’s best for all parties when they go their separate ways.
Oxlade-Chamberlain still has a lot to give, and will hopefully find another top club where he can play regularly.
Meanwhile, Liverpool will be able to reinvest his salary in revamping their midfield.
