He loves the club’: Liverpool have been tracking 21-year-old for ages but he may sign new contract – Romano

Liverpool have long had their eye on Bukayo Saka as a potential transfer target, but he may sign a new contract with Arsenal.

That’s according to journalist Fabrizio Romano. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano insisted that Liverpool are one of the clubs with a longstanding interest in Saka.

Many top clubs are following Bukayo Saka for a long time. Man city, Liverpool, Chelsea, many clubs have been following the situation on Bukayo Saka,” he said.

However, Romano went on to say that such interest may ultimately prove to be futile. That’s because those at Arsenal are ‘optimistic’ the 21-year-old is staying where he is.

“Since last February, Buakyo Saka’s agents are in discussion with Arsenal to extend the contract. The feeling is positive on both sides,” he explained. “Mikel Arteta is pushing a lot to have Bukayo Saka with a new contract, so at the moment there is optimism to extend. This is a priority for Arsenal. The player is happy there, he loves the club, so at the moment this is the situation. Let’s see how the negotiation will go.”may sign a new contract

Saka dragging his heels over new Gunners deal

Liverpool fans could be forgiven for feeling a sense of Deja vu with this particular update. Romano actually gave a similar report back in July.

Many top clubs are following Bukayo Saka for a long time. Man city, Liverpool, Chelsea, many clubs have been following the situation on Bukayo Saka,” he said.

But three months have passed, and Saka is still yet to put pen to paper on an extension.

At this point, you have to wonder what the hold-up is. Throughout the negotiations, the player is said to have been keen to stay at his boyhood club. But for whatever reason, the contract remains unsigned.

That may give hope to the clubs Romano mentions here, including Liverpool. It sounds as though Saka is more than likely to stay at Arsenal, though.

In any case, they’d be wise to sign him up sooner rather than later. His good performances this season have contributed to Arsenal finding themselves at the top of the Premier League table.

Should he continue his good form, he’ll be more and more attractive to potential buyers. He’ll also potentially start asking for a bigger contract from the Gunners.

For now though, Liverpool are merely on the outside looking in. It’s hard to believe, but Saka is still only twenty-one. His current deal ends in 2024, but even if he signs a new one, he’s still young enough to be an option in the years to come.

That could depend on Liverpool and Arsenal’s trajectory between now and then. The interest from the Reds is obviously there, let’s see how this one plays out.
