Liverpool didn’t have the best of weekends.
The Reds lost 3-2 to Arsenal at the Emirates as their poor start to the season continues, and Jurgen Klopp has formally declared that his side are out of the title race already.
There isn’t much room for optimism at Anfield right now, but there is a bright Liverpool star making his name down the road in Lancashire.
Indeed, Tyler Morton is still shining for Blackburn Rovers, and he had a fantastic game against Rotherham this weekend, earning himself a place in the EFL Team of the Week.
The midfielder has previously been described as ‘incredible’ by Jurgen Klopp, and it’s not difficult to see why after this weekend’s showing.
Morton absolutely ran the game against the Millers, and while he didn’t get a goal or an assist, he was unbelievable.
In a performance that was reminiscent of a prime Steven Gerrard, Morton was everywhere and doing everything you’d want from a midfielder.
Undoubtedly, his passing was what caught the eye more than anything else. He completed eight successful long balls – a feat he’d achieved just two weeks prior, he played four key passes, while he also completed four crosses.
Defensively, he won three aerial duels and made three tackles too. All in all, this was the ultimate midfield performance and it’s hard not to get excited about this player.
At the age of just 19, Morton is shining in the Championship, and with Liverpool’s midfield struggling at the moment, there could soon be a place for him to make something of a mark in the first team if he continues to improve at this rate.
Let’s not forget, Harvey Elliott also went down the same path with a successful loan spell at Blackburn before becoming a first-team star for Liverpool, and Morton could follow in those footsteps.
