In fairness, they weren’t too much better with him in the side to begin with. As a result, it’s difficult to say just how much Liverpool missed their new striker.

Darwin Nunez has posted a message on Twitter as he prepares to return from suspension for Liverpool tomorrow.

The Liverpool striker has missed the last three games through suspension. But with a big game against Everton on the horizon, Nunez is now free to play again.

In fairness, they weren’t too much better with him in the side to begin with. As a result, it’s difficult to say just how much Liverpool missed their new striker.

From a goal-scoring point of view, it’s fair to say that they didn’t. Nine goals in a single game against Bournemouth was a Premier League record for the club after all.

But in the game where it really mattered – away to Manchester United – Liverpool missed Nunez massively.

The 23-year-old would surely have made Lisandro Martinez’s life a lot more difficult than Roberto Firmino. His willingness to run the channels would have drawn out United’s rather deep defence, too.

It was a massive missed opportunity for Nunez to really make his mark in the league in a way that Erling Haaland has at Manchester City.

But, another week, another massive game. If he can turn in a match-winning performance against Everton tomorrow, everything will be forgiven and a new cult hero is likely to be born from that. Over to you, Darwin.
