CURTIS JONES 🤕 injury setback explained as Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp confirms another midfield blow

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was asked about the fitness of Thiago Alcantara, Jordan Henderson, Curtis Jones and Fabio Carvalho ahead of the Champions League clash with Napoli

Jurgen Klopp has cleared Thiago Alcantara to return for Liverpool when they are hosted by Napoli in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

But the Reds boss stated that captain Jordan Henderson will be absent until after the international break next month as he provided a quartet of injury updates in Naples – including the reason Curtis Jones missed Saturday’s Merseyside derby.

Thiago pulled up just five minutes into the second half of the Premier League opener with Fulham on August 6 with a hamstring issue but is now poised for a comeback after returning to training on Monday.

Thiago is back in training, it was his second day today which means he’s ready,” Klopp said. “For how long [tomorrow] we’ll see. Hendo, he had the results of the scan and after the international break I think he’ll be back.”

Klopp also explained why Jones was absent from the squad that drew 0-0 with Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday. The midfielder picked up a calf problem in the closing stages of the Community Shield in July and was back in the match-day squad for the 2-1 win over Newcastle United on August 31.

However, the 21-year-old has suffered a recurrence of that injury and has remained on Merseyside with Fabio Carvalho, who suffered a dead leg in the goalless draw with Everton.

Klopp added: “Curtis, when he was out previously he had a stress reaction in a specific bone around the tibia. It was no problem anymore, he trained twice and then he felt it again. Not as bad as the first time but serious enough for him to not be involved in team training again. It’s not very helpful.

“Fabio’s got a massive dead leg which causes the muscles some problems. So there was no chance [to be involved]. He is walking normally now but there was no chance to train until now. I hope it will get better and he will be ready for the weekend but I am not 100% sure.”
