Borussia Dortmund ‘interested’ in Naby Keita as Liverpool eye ‘replacement’ with funds

According to a new report, Borussia Dortmund are interested in signing Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita.

Borussia Dortmund are reportedly interested in signing Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita in the summer transfer window.

Keita had his best season in a Liverpool shirt in 2021-22 but he has struggled for consistency since he completed his big money move from RB Leipzig in 2018. He has not been helped by injuries, however, and the 27-year-old could be set for another spell on the sidelines after being ruled out of Monday’s 2-1 defeat at Manchester United.

Keita’s latest setback comes at a time when there is speculation over his future. The Guinea international is out of contract at the end of the season and it is unknown as to whether he will extend his deal to remain with the Reds. Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, however, says he’s not entertaining the prospect of selling Keita before the transfer window closes.

And rather than selling midfielders, there have been cries from Reds fans to add reinforcements to the midfield department. It is believed that Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham is a key target for Klopp. But any move for the England international is unlikely to be made until next summer given the German club have just sold Erling Haaland to Manchester City.

But, according to a new report, there could be other business done between the clubs. The Mirror’s David Maddock has said in about Liverpool’s midfield situation: “His injury just a day before he was due to play at Old Trafford highlights the problem completely. Klopp can’t rely on him. Dortmund are interested, and any money received could be used to find a replacement.”

Klopp said last Friday: “Do we sell Naby now and not replace him? No, that is not possible. Of course not. But it is not the plan. We are done, so we don’t think that a player can go and we don’t replace him.

“No, there’s no chance. Naby will not go but if he would, which he will not do, there must be a replacement, of course. It’s clear.”
