18-year-old Liverpool left-back Luke Chambers was spotted in training yesterday after an injury to Andy Robertson.
As a result of the injury, Jurgen Klopp confirmed that Liverpool’s regular full-back will miss tonight’s match with Ajax.
In his place, it’s pretty much nailed on that Kostas Tsimikas will start against the Dutch Champions. But that has left a spot open on the bench.
After impressing in the tour of Asia in pre-season, perhaps Chambers is next in-line. James Milner has filled in admirably in the past, but his recent performances have been poor. Having been seen preparing himself yesterday, maybe Chambers is now ready to step up.
Returning faces
Robertson’s injury is the latest in a long line of set-backs in Liverpool’s first-team this season.
There has been better news on that front recently, though, and that continued during Monday’s session.
Fabio Carvalho was pictured training having missed last week’s doomed visit to Napoli. Meanwhile, it was great to see Caoimhin Kelleher also out on the pitches after such a long time out.
Reds looking relaxed
Liverpool fans could be forgiven for being in a sombre mood about their team’s chances this season. A number of performances so far in the campaign have been dismal.
After eight games played, The Reds have only won twice. That should lead to a few rollockings behind closed doors from the coaching staff. No doubt it has.
But the Liverpool squad showed no signs of that during yesterday’s workout. The players looked relaxed and happy as they prepared for another Champions League fixture.
Hopefully that relaxation is shaken off and replaced by focus when kick-off arrives tonight. Joe Gomez, Virgil Van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold in particular were far too relaxed as Napoli’s attack swept through them last week.
