🔥 Jurgen Klopp wants Liverpool to be awarded points if Manchester United match postponed again

Jurgen Klopp believes Liverpool should get all three points if Manchester United supporters force another postponement

Jurgen Klopp believes Liverpool should be awarded three points if Manchester United supporters force the postponement of their Premier League clash on Monday.

The Reds make the short journey down the East Lancs Road to take on their bitter North West rivals with both sides still seeking their first top-flight win of the season.

That United are bottom of the table after two defeats has only intensified the unrest among large sections of their fanbase towards the club’s owners the Glazer family, with suggestions a planned walkout during the visit of Liverpool could escalate into actions that may cause the postponement or abandonment of the match.

A group of United supporters were successful in having the fixture called off in May 2021 when, with the game at Old Trafford due to be played behind closed doors due to ongoing coronavirus restrictions, they stormed the stadium and invaded the pitch before kick-off to force the first postponement of a Premier League game due to fan protests.

The match was rearranged to leave United facing four games inside a week, with then manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer opting to play a shadow side against Leicester City – who Liverpool were vying with for a top-four finish – just two days before fielding a full-strength line-up against the Reds. United lost both games.

And while Klopp doesn’t expect there to be any repeat of the trouble at Old Trafford on Monday night, he is adamant Liverpool should be automatically awarded the victory if the game doesn’t go ahead due to a deliberate act of disturbance from United followers.

“Do we have any plans for the game not happening? We are going home in the bus,” said the Reds boss. “I really hope it will not happen, but if it does happen I think we should get the points.

We have nothing to do with the situation. If that happens and the supporters want the game to be not happening, then we cannot just rearrange the game again and fit it in somewhere at an incredibly busy time. I don’t think and I really hope this will not happen.

“I have no idea what could happen, I don’t think about it. People tell us things will be fine so we will go there, play the game hopefully and go home. But if in a situation like this, always the other team should get the points because they have nothing to do with it. They have prepared the game.”
